Introducing: Typerino, a Writing App for Screen & Stage

What does an aspiring screenwriter do when presented with the blank page? Dream up a wonderful plot and craft a masterpiece?
Sure, I guess there are some who do that. If that’s what you’re into.
Some of us, on the other hand, get completely sidetracked with the tools we use to do the job and end up building a new product instead.
So today I’m launching Typerino, a desktop writing app for movies, television, and stage. It’s available as a free download at typerino.app.

What you see is what you get
Typerino is designed to be a beautiful, fast, robust desktop application. Screen and stage writing are wonderfully quirky enterprises, chock full of bespoke and interesting formatting rules. I built Typerino to be a peer among the field of venerable screenwriting apps like Final Draft, FadeIn, and others.

Easy control
Moving scenes around should be dead simple. Typerino has a Scene Cards view where you can easily drag and drop your scenes around to tell your story in the best way possible.

Beautiful, friendly interface
Typerino has three core color modes: Light, Dark w/ Light Page, and Dark w/ Dark Page. All designed to be pleasant, easy to read, and flexible to your workflow.

Everything in front of you
Typerino is feature packed, with Scenes, Cast, Notes, Marks, a freeform Board for ideation, and much more. Moving around the script is blazing fast with interactive labels that take you directly where you want to go with surgical precision.

Features & Highlights
The writing experience
-
See the script, not the markup. A live, in-context preview shows your pages exactly as they’ll read. No Markdown, no syntax to learn, no mental decoding.
-
Formatting that gets out of the way. Tab and Enter move you through scene headings, action, character, and dialogue automatically, so you write instead of fiddling with margins.
-
Industry-standard format you can trust. Pages render to professional screenplay and stage conventions, with pagination that matches what the established tools produce, so your page count holds up when it counts.
-
A built-in notebook beside your pages. Keep notes, research, and ideas next to the script instead of in a separate app.
-
A calm, approachable interface. Built for everyday writers, not just power users. Sit down and write without a manual.
Built for screen and stage, both
-
Four formats, one tool. Feature, one-hour TV, half-hour TV, and stage plays are all first-class, with starter templates for each (cold open/teaser act structures, multi-cam, two-act and ten-minute plays, and more).
-
Real TV structure. Act breaks, teasers, cold opens, and tags are handled properly, including multi-cam scene letters, all-caps action, and double-spaced treatment.
-
Stage plays done right. Cast pages, setting and time blocks, italic stage directions, centered or left character cues, and act breaks with intermission — not a screenplay template wearing a costume.
Your scripts move freely
-
Open and export Final Draft files faithfully. Full-fidelity .fdx round-trips in both directions, so switching to (or sharing with) Final Draft users doesn’t cost you structure.
-
Switching tools isn’t a trap. Import from Final Draft, Fountain, Fade In, and Celtx; export to PDF, Final Draft, and Fountain.
-
Professional PDFs every time. Clean, correctly formatted PDF export across every template.
Your work stays yours
-
Local-first, never hosted on our servers. Your scripts live on your own storage.
-
Backed up through your own cloud. Connect Dropbox, Google Drive, and others so you never stress about losing pages, with local save always available.
Easy to start
-
14-day free trial, no credit card. Try the whole thing before you decide.
-
Priced for working and aspiring writers. $11.99/mo or $99/yr, a fraction of the cost of the legacy standard.
